Head Massage

What makes a
head massage so important?

Other then being a wonderful and relaxing way to spend a half-hour,
head massage can relieve a variety of musculoskeletal problems along the posterior line (see Tom Myers “Anatomy Trains”).

As a
sports massage therapist, massaging the knots I find within the muscles in the head: Occiptialis, Frontalis and especially Temporalis is a great way to relieve tension the client builds up.

It is not uncommon to feel large and bulbous knots within the Temporalis muscle, I attempt to release this by using to fingers on both sides of the head just above the cheekbones and putting deep and consistent pressure on the spot for a period of 20 seconds. This can prove to be quite uncomfortable but afterwards there is an appreciable release in the tension held there.
